Storm Season Ends with One-Run Loss

Keuka’s 2008 season came to end on Friday as they lost its second game of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament to Penn State-Berks by a score of 11-10. The Storm end the season with a 9-28 record while Berks improves to 15-23 and will now take on Cazenovia College in tomorrow 9 am game.
Keuka started off on fire, plating four runs in the top of the first. Berks would strike back with three in the bottom of the second and six in the third. The Nittany Lions would go up by seven (11-4) after two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Keuka kept fighting as they scored the game’s final six runs. Three in the sixth, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth. Keuka couldn’t complete the comeback as the tying run was left stranded in scoring position.
Sophomore Kyle Sherin (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) suffered the loss while freshman Bobby Potter (Montour Falls, N.Y./Odessa-Montour) pitched five and 1/3 stellar innings of relief, allowing just two runs.
Senior Matt Schaffer (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) led the sticks going 3-for-5 with three runs scored while also throwing out two would be base stealers. Freshman Mike Marsh (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) batted 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Junior Ed Schoeneck (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) knocked in four runs while also scoring once as junior Alex Paquette (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) and senior Collin Mullins (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) each finished with two hits a piece. Junior Craig Pittinger (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) chipped in with a pair of RBIs.
