Four Storm Players Earn All-NEAC Honors
July 18, 2008
The Keuka College women’s tennis team accomplished a couple of firsts this season. They won its first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) regular season championship by going 5-1. They also had a player named to the All-NEAC teams for the first time, four players to be exact.
The Storm were led by rookie Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) who played in flight No. 1 in both singles and doubles. McGowan finished with a 7-7 singles mark and was the runner-up in the NEAC Tournament championships to earn a spot on the All-NEAC second team. In doubles, McGowan and teammate Alison Liberty (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) went 9-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The duo won the top doubles flight at the championships to both be named to the All-NEAC first team.
Already named to the All-NEAC first team in doubles, Liberty also held her own at the No. 3 singles slot for Keuka. Liberty finished 6-7 overall and was third at NEACs to be named to the All-NEAC honorable mention squad.
Keuka’s No. 2 singles player, freshman Beth Kushner (Angola, N.Y./Elden), finished the regular season 7-4 overall and won flight No. 2 at the NEAC championships to earn a spot on the All-NEAC first team.
Sophomore Jennifer Heinrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) went 4-6 playing mostly in No. 4 singles during the regular season. But Heinrich stepped it up during the championships to be named to the All-NEAC honorable mention squad.
