Skidmore Ruins Storm Season Finale

The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team lost its season finale to Skidmore College 18-9 on Sunday.  The loss snaps Keuka’s two-game winning streak and gives them a 5-5 mark in the 2008 campaign.  Skidmore stands at 3-13 overall.

Of the game’s first eight goals it was Skidmore scoring first each time.  Keuka always answered after each Thoroughbred goal leaving the game tied at four with 19:25 remaining in the opening half.  Skidmore would then go on a 4-0 stretch and score six of the final eight goals in the opening half to lead 10-6 at the break.

Skidmore quickly put the game out of reach in the second half by scoring the first six goals to go up by ten (16-6)  Keuka would pour in three more goals near the end of the game to make it a 18-9 final.

The Thoroughbred’s out-shot the Storm 36-17 while picking up eight more ground balls (13-5).

Keuka’s rookies led the Storm offense with Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) netting a game-high four goals and adding an assist.  Shafer finishes her rookie year with a team-high 25 goals and 30 points.  Fellow freshman Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added two goals and an assist, giving her 15 total points in her first season.

Junior Carey Glover (East Syracuse, N.Y./MCC) also tallied two goals and an assist to finish the year with 20 points.  Senior, and Keuka College career scoring leader, Ann Shatraw (Morristown, N.Y./Carthage) added a goal and an assist to give her 29 points this season.

Keuka goalie Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) finished with 12 saves in goal, giving her 87 on the year while finishing with a .455 save percentage.
