Storm Place Six on All-NEAC Team
July 18, 2008
The Keuka College women’s soccer team dominated the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) this season, winning the regular season championship while going undefeated (9-0).
To show just how dominant the Storm were, look no further then the All-Conference teams. Keuka landed six players on the first and second teams while also sporting the Player of the Year and the Co-Coach of the Year.
Jamie Burke was voted by her peers for the second straight year as the NEAC Coach of the Year, sharing it this year with D’Youville’s skipper. Burke led the Storm to the NEAC Tournament championship game where they were upset 1-0 by Baptist Bible College. Keuka’s strong season would continue, however, as they were selected as the No. 6 seed in the ECAC Upstate Tournament.
Senior forward Nicole Bondellio (Watkins Glen, N.Y./Corning West) led the Storm all year and was named the conference Player of the Year for the second time in her career (winning the award as a freshman in ‘04). Bondellio, also named to the All-NEAC first team for the fourth straight time, broke every record in the Keuka annals while notching team-highs in goals (18), assists (8), and points (44). Her 44 points are the third most points scored in a season at Keuka. Bondellio will finish her career the all-time leader in goals (50), assists (39), and points (139).
Joining Bondellio on the All-NEAC first team were junior midfielder Shana Jordan (Williamson, N.Y./Wayne) and sophomore defender Kelly Josephson (Jamestown, N.Y./Maple Grove). Jordan was the Storm’s fourth leading scorer, netting 15 points while scoring five goals and dishing off five assists. Josephson started all 17 games and helped Keuka allow only 19 goals all year and only six in 11 NEAC games.
Named to the All-NEAC second team were the Storm’s second and third leading scorer’s as well as its sweeper. Rookie forward Alyssa Hermenet (Williamson, N.Y./Williamson) was Keuka’ No. 2 scorer, tallying 12 goals with 4 assists for 28 points. Fellow rookie, midfielder Molly McGuigan (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley), was right behind Hermenet in scoring with nine goals, 3 assists, and 21 points. Senior sweeper Kerry Callahan (Farmingville, N.Y./Bishop McGann-Mercy), a four time All-NEAC performer, was a huge reason the Storm held opponents to a minuscule 1.11 goals scored average.
