Storm Take Second at East Regionals

The Synchro team took second out of seven teams at the East Regional Championships hosted by Canisius College on Saturday and Sunday. The Storm finished with a score of 80, behind only Canisius (100). Finishing behind the Storm were Wheaton College(77), Boston University (57), University of Pennsylvania (56), Penn State University (54), and M.I.T. (41.5).
Keuka took second in the “A” figures as well as the team and trio routines. Canisius swept all four routines as well as “A” figures. Needing to place in the top three in order to qualify for Nationals, Keuka had all four of its routines qualify, including two soloists.
Junior Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) and sophomore Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban Gils College) both finished in third place in the solo routine with a score of 85.667. The duo were bested only by Canisius’ two Russian swimmers.
Cookerly and Crowder then teamed up as an honorary duet and finished in third place (84.333) to also qualify as a duet. Keuka’s other duet of Tracy Ringel (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic) placed fourth with a score of 76.000.
Keuka’s trio came the closest to winning, as they finished in second place behind a Canisius trio. Cookerly, Crowder, and Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) ended with an84.667 while Canisius posted a score of 87.500.
The Storm’s top team of Cookerly, Crowder, Kaminska, Felicia Lenzo (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Lojo, and Ringel tied for second with Wheaton’s team (83.500). Keuka’s “B” team placed sixth (70.333).
In the elements portion of the competition, Keuka had a swimmer finish in second or third in three of the four groups. Crowder led the way in “A” figures with a third place finish (83.993). barely edging out teammate Cookerly (83.839). In “B” figures, Kaminska placed second with a 72.852, not even a full point behind the winner from Canisius. In “D” figures, Keuka had two swimmers place in the top five out of 30 swimmers. Sophomore Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis) placed third (57.604) while senior Adriana Riano (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) took fifth (56.839), respectively.
The Storm will next compete in the ECAC Championships at William & Mary (Virginia) on March 22-23.
