Storm Fall in Season Opener

The Keuka College women’s soccer team dropped its season opener against the visiting Golden Eagles of Brockport State (1-0) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Brockport’s Nicole Gibraud (Rochetser, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) scored two of Brockport’s goals and assisted on the third.
Gibraud put the Golden Eagles on the board in the ninth minute of the game when she went around two Storm defenders and blasted a shot past Keuka’s goalie. Just over ten minutes later, Gibraud struck again, this time off a pass from sophomore Jessica Bush (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden).
Trailing 2-0 at the break, Keuka played much tighter defense in the second half. The two teams were held scoreless for over 60 straight minutes. Gibraud capped off Brockport’s scoring with an assist on rookie Taylor Lanio’s (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) 83rd minute goal.
Brockport out-shot the Storm 25-5. Keuka goalie Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) finished with 10 saves while Brockport’s Liz Durfee (Williamson, N.Y./Williamson) collected three saves in the shutout.
Keuka will next travel to SUNY Geneseo this Saturday, Sept. 6 for a noon start.
