Men’s Runners Take 16th at Geneseo Invite

The men’s cross country team took 16th place at the SUNY Geneseo Invitational on Saturday.

The 8K race featured 21 teams and 248 runners and was run at the Letchworth State Park.  Geneseo won the race with a final score of 36, taking five of the top 10 spots.  SUNY Plattsburgh followed (91) while the Geneseo Alumni took third with a score of 96.  The University of Rochester (108) and Houghton College (127) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Freshman Scott Matheis (Barker, N.Y./Barker) kept up his solid rookie campaign while finishing first for the Storm in the fourth straight race.  Matheis took 163rd place in a time of 30:36.  Fellow freshman Ben Young (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) finished 29 seconds (31:05) behind Matheis in 171st place.  

Sophomore Josh Uline (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) ran in 219th place in a time of 34:28 to finish third for Keuka.  Two seconds behind Uline was rookie Parker Gazda (Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) in 220th place.  Sophomore Chris Mazella (Depew, N.Y./Depew) rounded out the Storm’s top-five with his 224th place finish in a time of 34:59.

The Storm will next run at the Nazareth College Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 11 beginning at 1:45 pm.
