Volleyball Takes Care of Saxons on Senior Night

The Keuka volleyball team got strong performances from both of its seniors as they rolled to a 3-1 win over the visiting Saxons of Alfred University on Wednesday.

Keuka improves to 13-11 overall while the Saxons fall to 3-16 on the year.

The Storm lost a close game one (27-29) despite nearly pulling off an impressive comeback.  Down 24-22, the Storm rattled off three straight points to go up 25-24.  After trading points back and forth, Keuka finally fell 29-27.

From then on it was all Keuka.  The Storm won the second set 25-17 before really thumping Alfred 25-11 in the third set.  Keuka was up 12-1 at one point in the third set.  The Storm then finished off Alfred 25-18 in the fourth set.

The Storm served up 14 aces and dug 83 balls as a team.  Leading the way was Keuka’s two seniors who were honored before the game.  Setter Diana Frank (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley) finished with half of the Storm’s aces (7) while also dishing off 13 assists.  Libero Samantha Heath (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) dug a team-high 25 balls.

while adding 14 digs and three blocks to lead the Storm’s offense.  Junior Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) added six kills and 16 digs while sophomore setter Katy Geers (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) collected 14 assists and 10 digs.

The Storm will next play host to an important NEAC tri-match this Saturday beginning at 10 am.  Keuka will square off against SUNYIT at 10 am and then face Penn State-Harrisburg at 2 pm.
