Volleyball Ends Regular Season with a Pair of Wins

The Keuka College volleyball team finished off its 2008 regular season with a pair of wins at the Penn State-Berks tri-match on Saturday.  The Storm started the day by defeating NEAC foe Penn State-Berks in five sets (3-2) before blanking the College of St. Elizabeth (3-0).

With the two wins Keuka ends the regular season with a 16-13 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark.  Penn State-Berks drops to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in the NEAC.

Against the Nittany Lions, the two teams traded wins with Keuka luckily winning game one (25-16, 15-25, 25-15, 17-25, and 15-10).  The Storm finished with a team hitting percentage of .109 compared to a .162 for the Nittany Lions.  Keuka dominated Berks in digs (75-36) while also blocking eight more shots (9-1).

Senior setter Diana Frank (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley) dished off 38 assists to orchestrate the offense.  Sophomore outside hitter Raelle Naegley (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) was the biggest beneficiary of Frank’s assists with a match-high 16 kills.  Naegely added nine digs.  Junior Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) crushed 12 kills with a match-high 28 digs.  Senior libero Samantha Heath (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) added 17 digs while junior Jessica Volz (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) dug 11 balls.  Rookie Emily Hargrave (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye) finished with five kills,

a match-high three aces, and two blocks.

Keuka easily rolled through the College of St. Elizabeth beating them 25-7, 25-17, and 25-13.  Keuka finished with 11 service aces in the three sets while ending with a team-hitting percentage of .188.  Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) led the way with six kills (.357 %) while Naegley and freshman Rachel Perry (Nichols, N.Y./Tioga) each ended with four kills.  Frank dished off nine more assists while tallying five aces. 

The Storm will next wait and see what seed and what team they are playing against in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament.  The tournament will be on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8.
