Men’s Cross Country Claims Fifth at NEAC Championships

The Keuka College men’s cross country team finished fifth out of eight teams at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.

The 8K race that featured 70 runners was won by the host Fighting Tigers with a score of 18.  Keuka finished with a final team score of 148.  Behind Cobleskill was SUNYIT (68), Cazenovia College (70), and the University of Dallas (97).  After Keuka was Penn State-Berks (177), Penn State-Harrisburg (206), and D’Youville College (210).

Keuka was paced by rookie Scott Matheis (Barker, N.Y./Barker)who finished in 31st place in a time of 32:55.  Seven seconds behind Matheis was classmate Ben Young (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) in 32nd place.

The Storm’s third runner to finish was also a freshman as Parker Gazda (Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) ended the race in a time of 34:29 to place 43rd overall.  Sophomore Chris Mazella (Depew, N.Y./Depew)  placed right behind Gazda in 44th place (34:48).  Fellow sophomore Jaime Conway (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM), running in his first race of the season, was the fifth Storm runner in 46th place (35:00).
