November 7, 2008

Senior Brandon Scott surpased the 100 career point mark with two goals.
Behind the sensational scoring talents of senior Brandon Scott (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore), Keuka cruised to a 3-0 win over #7 seeded Penn State-Berks in its NEAC Tournament quarterfinals match-up on Friday.
The game was played at Penn State-Berks and is Keuka’s eighth shutout of the year. The Storm improve to 12-3-1 overall while the Nittany Lions end its season with a 7-13 record.
The Storm scored all three of its goals in the first half as Keuka was actually out-shot in the game 14-12. The Storm held a 9-4 advantage in the opening half while Berks dominated the second half 10-3.
Fortunately for the Storm, Scott has perfected how to finish a goal over his four years here at Keuka. Scott gave the Storm an early 1-0 lead off a pass from classmate Mike Tempesta (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) in the 11th minute of action. The goal would be the game-winner, Scott’s seventh of the season. The assist was Tempesta’s sixth of the year.
One minute and two seconds after he put the Storm on the board, Scott gave Keuka a little cushion with his second goal. This time it was fellow forward Jack Reece (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) with the assist. Also his sixth of the year. The goal gives Scott an impressive 15 in 15 games played this year. The four points also send Scott over 100 for his career, becoming just the second

Sophomore Carl Learned's ninth goal of the season put the game out of reach.
player in school history to do so.
Forward Carl Learned (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy), already having a breakout sophomore campaign, netted his ninth goal of the season in the 39th minute off a rebound to give the Storm a huge 3-0 advantage at the break.
Neither team was able to create any offense in the second half as the Storm held on for another shutout. The shutout was made possible by junior goalie Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) as he finished with nine saves on the day. Seven coming in the second half. Penn State-Berks goalie Jonathan Martin ended with four saves.
The Storm will now play No. 3 SUNYIT tomorrow (Saturday), Nov. 8 at 1 pm in a semifinal match-up at Penn State-Berks.
