Scott Named NEAC Player of the Year; Four Others Recognized

Senior Brandon Scott was named the NEAC Player of the Year.
The Keuka men’s soccer team enjoyed a sensational 2008 season as they finished one win shy (12-4-2) of tying the Keuka College record of 13. The Storm were not able to repeat as North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament champions despite making it to the title game.
The Storm were, however, rewarded for its hard work this season by having five of its players represented on the All-Conference teams.
Led by senior forward Brandon Scott (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) who received the highest honor handed out. Scott was named the league’s Player of the Year as voted on by the NEAC coaches. Scott led the Storm in scoring for the fourth consecutive season and finished one-goal shy (17) of tying the single-season school record. He ended the year with 17 goals, six assists, and 40 points. In the NEAC Tournament, Scott scored four of the Storm’s five goals in its three games.
Joining Scott on the All-NEAC first team was sophomore forward Jack Reece (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili), sophomore midfielder Brian Cunliffe (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili), and senior defender Justin Viele (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia).
Reece, an All-NEAC honorable mention pick as a rookie, finished second on the team with nine goals and 24 points. He shared the team-lead with six assists. Cunliffe started all 18 games while dishing off three assists. This is his first time being named to the All-NEAC team. Viele collects his third straight first team selection after leading Keuka’s defense. The Storm led the NEAC in goals against average and shutouts.
Named to the All-NEAC second team for the second year in a row was junior goalie Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson). Meskill ended with 81 saves and a .844 save percentage. He stopped 17 shots in Keuka’s three tournament games.
