Men’s Hoops Uses Huge First Half to Win Season Opener

Senior Justin Stern scored a game-high 24 points while going 6-for-8 from behind the arc.
Keuka’s men’s basketball team scored 51 points while torching the nets at a 73% clip in the opening half as they rolled to a 79-52 win over the visiting Kangaroos of SUNY Canton on Tuesday.
The Storm improve to 1-0 while the Kangaroos fall to 0-3 on the year.
Keuka rarely missed from the floor in the first half as they went 22-for-30 including 7-for-10 from behind the arc to enjoy a commanding 51-19 lead at the break. Keuka outscored Canton 32-5 over the final 12 minutes of the first half. Canton actually out-scored the Storm 33-28 in the second half but the damage had been done.
Keuka finished the game with a 64% shooting percentage (29-for-45) while Canton shot 39% (22-for-56). Keuka dominated the boards grabbing 14 more (37-23) then the Kangaroos. The Storm also doubled up Canton in assists (20-10).
Leading the way was senior guard Justin Stern (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) who netted six 3-pointers in eight attempts to finish with a game-high 24 points. Stern also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds while going 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Junior guard Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Southside) added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists while sophomore center Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas) went a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor for 10 points. Junior Peter Durr (Barneveld, N.Y./Utica Notre dame) chipped in with nine points and five assists.
Canton was led by Antonio Valentin with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Josh Wilson added 10 points.
The Storm will next play host to Elmira College this Friday, Nov. 21 beginning at 7 pm.
