Storm Synchro Upsets No. 3 Canisius in Season Opener

Junior Shannon Crowder helped Keuka knock off Canisius College.
The Keuka College synchronized swimming team, ranked No. 7 in the nation, knocked off the visiting No. 3 nationally ranked Golden Griffins of Canisius College by a score of 33.5 to 30 at the Ayers Pool on Friday.
In a competition that featured just figures and no routines, the Storm were able to pull off the victory despite winning just the “D” figures. Canisius claimed the top two sports in “A” figures and three of the top five in “B” figures. The Storm however won three of the top four spots in “C” figures and won the top four in “D” figures.
In “A” figures, it was Canisius’s two All-Americans Natalia Tarasova (Moscow, Russia) and Yulia Shepeleva (Moscow, Russia) who took first and second place, respectively. They finished with scores of 92.440 and 91.292. Keuka’s Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa) claimed third with a score of 85.409 while Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) took fourth (83.868.
The Storm’s Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) placed third overall out of 12 swimmers in “B” figures with a score of 72.842. Junior Courtney Karolinko (Boynton Beach, FL/Park Vista) took fifth with a 71.604.
Rookie Megan Morehouse (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) won the “C” figures with a score of 67.363 while junior Sarah Silverman (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) won the “D” figures with a score of 59.946.
The Storm will next take to the pool again on Jan. 24 at the Ohio State University tri-meet.
