Schrock’s Efforts Not Enough as Storm Fall to Buff State

Despite a second straight solid game by sophomore Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison).  Keuka couldn’t earn its first win as they fell to the host Bengals of Buffalo State by a score of 61-51 on Sunday, Nov. 23.  The game was Keuka’s second straight in the Buffalo State Tournament called the Betty Abgott Classic.

Keuka slips to 0-4 on the year while the Bengals receive its first win of the year and stand at 1-2 overall.

Keuka continued to struggle in the second half like they have done in the previous three games.  The Storm found themselves down by six at the half (31-25) but shot just 25% in the second half.  Keuka managed to hit seven more 3-pointers giving them 17 in the two games of the tournament.   

For the game Keuka shot 29% (15-for-51) while Buffalo State shot 35% (23-for-65).  The Bengals helped its chances to win by out-rebounding the Storm by 12 (50-38).  The two teams were pretty equal from the free throw line as Buff State went 13-for-22 and Keuka went 14-for-25.

Schrock connected on four more 3-pointers to finish with 12 points and give her seven 3-pointers in two games.  Schrock went 4-of-11 from the floor and 4-for-8 from behind the arc as she was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Rookie

 guard Elena Augustus (Geneva, N.Y./DeSales) was the only other Keuka player to finish with double figures as she netted a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Junior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) collected seven steals to give her ten in the two tournament games and 17 in just four games this season.  Sophomore Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added six points, five assists, and four rebounds while senior forward Angela Viggiani (Kent, N.Y./Albion) added six points and six rebounds.

Buffalo State received 11 points from Barb Kiliszek and 10 points from Yasmine Debnam off the bench.

The Storm will next travel to Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday, Dec. 6 for a 1 pm showdown.
