Women’s Hoops Loses to Mavericks at Buff State Tourney

The Keuka College women’s basketball team’s first win eluded them once again as they fell 81-58 to the Mavericks of Medaille College on Saturday, Nov. 22.  The game was Keuka’s first of two in the Buffalo State Tournament.  Keuka will now square off against the host Bengals on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 pm.

Keuka now sits at 0-3 on the year while Medaille improves to 3-0 overall.

The Storm were close at the break, trailing by just five (32-27), but the Mavericks enjoyed a huge second half with 49 points and seven 3-pointers to pull away.  For the game, Medaille made 10 3-pointers while shooting 40% (29-for-73) from the floor.  Keuka also connected on 10 3-pointers while shooting 32% (20-for-63).  Medaille pulled down seven more rebounds (51-44) and turned the ball over eight fewer times (15-23).

Junior guard Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) enjoyed a big game for Keuka with 16 points while going 6-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-4 from behind the arc.  Thurston also added four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The only other Storm player to reach double figures was sophomore guard Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) who finished with 12 points.  Schrock made three of her eight 3-point attempts.  Fellow sophomore guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added a team-high seven rebounds to go with her four points and four assists. 

Medaille was led by Kacie Mills who finished with a game-high 26 points and six assists.  Mills connected on 6-of-9 3-pointers and went 8-for-14 from the floor.  Amanda Sahhar and Carissa Ferrucci each added 16 points.
