Sophomore Jessica Fink led the Storm with 14 points.

Keuka’s women’s basketball team got off to a great start as they held a two-point advantage (40-38) at halftime, but the Storm couldn’t hold the lead as they fell 89-63 in its season opener to the visiting Herons of William Smith College on Saturday.  The game was both teams’ first of the year.

The Storm’s Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) scored the game’s first points on a lay-up but was quickly answered by a three-pointer from William Smith’s Latasha Coney (Lyons, N.Y./Lyons).  The Herons would hold the lead for the next 11 minutes, leading by as many as 10 with 9:35 remaining in the opening half.   Keuka then went on an 11-0 run in the next two and half minutes to regain the lead (27-26).  The two teams traded leads before the Storm’s Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) lay-up with 25 seconds left gave Keuka the lead for good at 40-38.
