Three-Point Specialists Named Keuka Athletes of the Week

Excellent perimeter shooting netted sophomore Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and senior Justin Stern (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) Keuka College Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Dec. 13.
Fink, a 5-6 guard on the Storm’s 1-5 women’s hoops team, connected on five 3-pointers in a game for the time in as many games. Fink finished with a game-high 19 points after going 5-for-10 from behind the arc and 7-for-14 overall in the Storm’s loss to SUNY Cobleskill. Fink now has 15 3-balls in just 31 attempts (48%) and is leading the team in scoring at 9.8 points a game.
Stern, a 6-2 guard on Keuka’s 3-2 men’s basketball team, helped lead the Storm to a 72-65 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Stern scored a game-high 23 points while connecting on three of his six 3-point attempts. Stern scored more then half of his points at the free throw line while going a perfect 14-for-14. Stern also added four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. For the season, Stern is averaging a team-high 17.4 points a game and has made 18 3-pointers in just five games while shooting at a 47% clip. Stern is now 33-for-36 (92%) at the free throw line on the year.
Stern Helps Storm Snap Two-Game Skid

Senior Justin Stern went 14-for-14 from the free throw line in the win.
Superb free-throw shooting, especially by senior Justin Stern Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) who went 14-for-14, helped the Storm knock off the Fighting Tigers of Cobleskill St. by a score of 72-65 on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The win snaps a two game losing streak pushing the Storm back over .500 at 3-2. Cobleskill falls to 1-7 on the year.
Keuka held a one-point advantage (35-34) at halftime but shot 50% (8-for-16) from the floor and went 18-for-23 from the free throw line in the second half to secure the seven-point victory. For the game, Keuka went 27-for-32 from the charity stripe (78%) while Cobleskill went just 16-for-23 (55%). Cobleskill pulled down 14 more rebounds (44-30) then Keuka but the Storm shot at a much higher percentage (42% - 34%). Read more
Terrific Guard Play Not Enough as Storm Lose on the Road

Junior Melissa Thurston recorded five steals to give her 29 in just six games.
The women’s basketball team received excellent efforts by its three starting guards but still fell short in its road game against the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 78-67 on Saturday, Dec. 13.
With the loss, Keuka drops to 1-5 on the year while Cobleskill evens its record at 4-4.
Cobleskill enjoyed a huge first half at the expense of the Storm as they shot 50% (16-for-32) from the floor to jump out to a 22-point (48-26) lead at the break. Keuka went 9-for-28 (32%) from the floor in the opening half. The Storm made a comeback in the second half, outscoring the Fighting Tigers by 11 points (41-30) but couldn’t dig itself out of its 22-point halftime deficit. Cobleskill held a big advantage at the free throw line, going 20-for-27 while Keuka managed just 11 attempts (10-for-11). Read more

Booker and Fink Share Keuka Athlete of the Week Honors

Keuka College awarded sophomores Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas) and Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) for their sensational weeks by naming them both Storm Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 6.
Booker, a 6-7 center on the Storm’s 2-2 men’s hoops squad, pulled down 17 rebounds in the Storm’s 64-59 loss to Penn State-Harrisburg. Seven of his 17 rebounds were offensive as he also scored six points and blocked three shots. It was Booker’s third straight game with 15 or more rebounds and he is averaging 13.5 a game. He has recorded 13 blocks in the Storm’s first four games while averaging 9.3 points a game.
Fink, a shooting guard on the Storm’s 1-4 women’s basketball team, led Keuka to its first win of the season while scoring a game-high 17 points. Fink hit five of the team’s seven 3-pointers as she went 5-of-8 from behind the arc and 6-for-10 overall. She also collected two boards, two steals, and an assist. For the season, Fink is averaging eight points a game and is shooting 48% (10-for-21) from long range.
Fink’s Five 3-Pointers Secure Storm’s First Win

Sophomore Jessica Fink hit five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 17 points.
The Keuka College women’s basketball team used a 24-rebound advantage and some slick outside shooting by sophomore Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) to record its first win of the season. The Storm knocked off the Lions of Penn State-Harrisburg by 18 points (63-41) on the road on Saturday, Dec, 6.
Keuka now stands at 1-4 overall while Harrisburg falls to 4-3 on the year.
The Storm’s defense pestered the Lions all night as they limited Harrisburg to just seven field goals in each half and only 29% shooting (14-for-49) from the floor. The Storm still turned the ball over 26 times but were able to make that high number a non-factor by pulling down 51 rebounds to only 27 for Harrisburg. Keuka shot 41% (26-for-63) including 32% (7-for-22) from behind the arc. Read more
Men’s Basketball Falls by Five to Lions

Despite a third straight 15+ rebounding game from sophomore center Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas), the Storm were unable to pull off a road win as they fell 64-59 to the Lions of Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Keuka falls to 2-2 on the year while Harrisburg improves to 3-4.
The Storm were tied with the Lions (49-49) with just over five minutes remaining in the game but 13 made free throws by Harrisburg secured the win for the Lions. Keuka trailed by two at the break (29-27) while shooting 34% (20-for-59) from the floor. Harrisburg shot only one-percent better (35%) going 21-for-60. Read more
