Men’s Basketball Defeats Rival Cazenovia

Sophomore Diamond Booker scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.
The Keuka men’s basketball team traveled to the hostile confines of rival Cazenovia College and came away with a 12-point victory as the Storm edged the Wildcats 75-63.
The victory puts the Storm at 5-8 overall on the year while Cazenovia falls to 4-13 on the season.
With the two teams tied at 10 points a piece a little over five minutes into the game, Keuka used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to put a little cushion between them and Cazenovia as Keuka held on for a five-point (32-27) halftime lead.
Keuka never trailed in the second half. Cazenovia got to within four (43-39) at the 10:40 mark but Keuka quickly scored the games next 10 points to build its lead back up. Keuka shot 41% (22-for-54) for the game while the Wildcats posted a shooting percentage of 35 (23-for-66). The Storm held a huge advantage at the free throw line going 26-for-37 to Cazenovia’s 12-for-19. The Wildcats, always a threat from behind the arc, went just 5-for-27 (19%).
Sophomore center Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Academy) enjoyed a big game inside with 19 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Booker went 8-for-14 from the floor. Junior Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) also poured in 19 points to go with six boards, and four assists. Coleman went 11-for-14 from the charity stripe and 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
Junior guard Peter Durr (Barneveld, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) remained hot from the floor as he scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting while hitting a pair of three’s. Seniors Justin Stern (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and Garret Herthum (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) each pulled down seven rebounds.
Cazenovia was led by Stephen Harris with 17 points despite going 3-for-12 from behind the arc. Erik Sauer and Jobe Zulu each added 15 points.
The Storm will next play host to the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Berks this Saturday, Jan. 31 beginning at 3 pm.
