Men’s Basketball Take Two from Penn State Teams

The Keuka College men’s basketball team won for the second and third times in four days as they defeated the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Berks by a score of 68-63 on Saturday before routing Penn State-Harrisburg 86-64 on Sunday.

The Storm inched closer to .500 with the pair of wins as they now stand at 7-8 overall.  Penn State-Berks falls to 3-15 overall while Harrisburg slips to 7-12.

Keuka started off the game on fire as they rolled to a 16-point halftime lead (36-20).  Berks opened up the second half on a 13-2 run to get the game within five points at the 14:30 mark.  Keuka quickly fought back to regain a ten point lead and held on for the win despite being outscored 43-32 in the second half. Keuka shot 38% (22-for-57) for the game while the Nittany Lions posted a shooting percentage of 35 (20-for-56). The Storm out rebounded Berks 45-33.

Senior shooting guard Justin Stern (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) led the Storm in scoring with 23 points.  Stern contributed clutch free throw shooting late in the game going 10-of-12.  Junior guard Peter Durr (Barneveld, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) helped guide the Storm with 16 points, five assists, and five rebounds.  Sophomore Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Academy) posted a double-double for Keuka by netting 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.  Junior point guard Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) pitched in with nine points, five assists, and two steals while senior Josh Robinson (Barton, N.Y./Tioga) hauled in 11 boards.

Against Penn State-Harrisburg, the Storm were never really in any trouble.  Keuka pulled out to a 14-point halftime lead (39-25) after making 16 first-half field goals and shooting 49% from the floor.  Keuka again shot well above 40% from the floor in the second period as Keuka outscored the Nittany Lions by eight points (47-39).  The Storm pulled down 51 rebounds to just 34 for Harrisburg.

All five starters for Keuka were in double figures led by Booker who posted his second straight double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.  Stern matched Booker’s 16 points while Coleman had 15 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.  Senior Garret Herthum (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro)netted 11 points to go with his seven rebounds while Durr chipped in with 10 points.

The Storm will next play at SUNYIT this Saturday, Feb. 7 beginning at 3 pm.
