Storm Women Take Down SUNYIT for Second Time in 7-Game Winning Streak

Sophomore Nicki Zahn recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists in the Storm's seventh straight win.
The Storm’s defense continued to shine as they held its opponent to under 50 points for the fifth straight game while improving its winning streak to seven games. The Storm knocked off the Wildcats of SUNYIT by a score of 60-40 on the road on Saturday, Feb. 7. It was the second time during the Storm’s current winning streak that they have defeated SUNYIT.
Keuka now stands at 9-7 overall and 8-1 against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) teams as SUNYIT falls to 11-10 overall.
The Storm used a big first half to mount an 11-point halftime lead (35-24). Keuka shot 49% (16-for-33) from the floor while holding the Wildcats to just seven first half field goals (7-for-23). Neither team was particularly hot from the floor in the second half with Keuka shooting 24% and scoring just 25 points and SUNYIT shooting 19% and scoring only 16 points. Overall, the Storm’s ferocious defense caused 26 Wildcat turnovers while holding them to just 24% shooting from the floor including an 0-for-14 out-put from behind the arc. Keuka won the battle of the boards with 46 rebounds to 39 for the Wildcats.
The Storm’s bench outscored SUNYIT’s 26-1 with sophomore’s Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) and Nicki Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) scoring 24 of those. Schrock led all Storm scorers with 13 points to go with her five rebounds and three steals. Zahn registered 11 points while also pulling down five boards, dishing off three assists, and shooting 5-for-7 from the floor.
Junior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) scored 12 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Thurston also hauled in eight rebounds. Senior Angela Viggiani (Kent, N.Y./Albion) finished with 11 rebounds and four steals while sophomore Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) scored nine points and passed out three dimes. Sophomore Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) added nine points and five boards.
SUNYIT was led by Tamara Williams and her 15 points, six rebounds, and five blocks. Taylor Topping added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Storm will next play at Penn State-Berks this Friday, Feb. 13 beginning at 6 pm.
