The Keuka College women’s basketball team won its tenth straight game as they knocked off the visiting Spartans of D’Youville College by a score of 63-54 on Tuesday night.

The win against D’Youville is the Storm’s second during its current 10-game winning streak, that dates back to Jan. 17, as they improve to 12-7.  D’Youville falls to 12-11 overall.

Keuka never trailed as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.  Keuka outscored the Spartans 28-15 in the opening half to hold a 13-point lead at the break.  The Storm’s defense held D’Youville to just 18% (5-for-28) shooting from the floor and zero percent from behind the arc (0-for-8).

The Storm quickly built its lead to as many as 26 points (49-23) with just over ten minutes remaining before the Spartans mounted a rally to get back to single digits.  D’Youville outscored Keuka 31-14 over the rest of the game to make the loss appear closer then it was.

For the game, Keuka shot just 27% (19-for-71) while D’Youville shot slightly better at 30% (19-for-64).  The Storm’s defense deserves much of the credit for the win as they caused the Spartans to cough up 22 turnovers, leading to 13 Keuka steals.  The Storm won the battle of the boards, 56-49.

Sophomore Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) got hot from behind the arc as she hit five of her 10 3-point attempts, leading to a game-high 19 points.  Classmate Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added 13 points while going 8-for-8 from the free throw line and adding seven assists, and six boards.

Junior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) had nine points, seven rebounds, and five steals while sophomore Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) led with a game-high 13 rebounds.  Senior Angela Viggiani (Kent, N.Y./Albion) added 12 boards and seven points.

D’Youville had two players collect double-doubles with Christine Halter (11-points & 11-rebounds) and Holly Beats (11-points & 10 rebounds).  Melissa Kanalley led all Spartan scorers with 16 points.

Keuka will next play host to Cazenovia College this Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6 pm.
