Senior Garret Herthum posted a huge double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds to help Keuka win its 10th game of the season.

The Keuka College men’s basketball team won its sixth game out of its last eight as they knocked off the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a score of 78-68 on Thursday night at the Weed Physical Arts Center.

The win puts the Storm at 10-10 overall and marks the first time they have been .500 since they were 3-3 back on Jan. 4.  Keuka sweeps the season series as they also defeated the Wildcats (75-63) back on Jan. 29.  Cazenovia falls to 6-18 overall.

The two teams traded leads the whole first half with 12 lead changes to go along with nine ties.  A jumper by sophomore Chas Tangredi (Troy, N.Y./Troy) with 1:14 left gave the Storm a two-point (36-34) lead that they would carry into the second half.

Keuka would never trail in the second period as they built its lead to as many as 13 points (twice) before settling on the 10-point victory.  Keuka shot 42% (25-for-60) from the floor while Cazenovia shot 34% (21-for-61).  The Storm only hit three 3-pointers while the Wildcats hit 12 but the Storm held a huge advantage at the free throw line (25-14).  The Storm also really dominated the boards, grabbing 52 to just 36 for Caz.

Senior Garret Herthum (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) had a huge double-double with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.  Herthum went 4-of-10 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Sophomore center Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Acad.) also tallied a double-double, his seventh straight.  Booker finished with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks.  Junior Peter Durr (Barneveld, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) matched Herthum’s 16 points while passing out a team-high five assists.  Junior Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) also reached double figures with 10 points and three assists.

Cazenovia was led by Stephen Harris who poured in four 3-pointers to finish with 16 points.  Erik Sauer added 15 points while going 8-of-12 from the free throw line.

Keuka will play its final regular season game this Saturday, Feb. 21 against SUNY Cobleskill beginning at 3 pm.
