Storm Fall to Canisius at Home

Despite a very strong showing by the Keuka College synchronized swimming team, the Golden Griffins of Canisius College pulled out a 102-88 victory at the Ayers Pool on Saturday.

Canisius, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, won all four routines while also taking “A” figures.  The Storm won “B”, “C”, and “D” figures.

Senior Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) placed third in “A” figures with a score of 85.412.  Cookerly finished behind Canisius’ two Russian imports Natalia Tarasova (92.108) and Yulia Shepeleva (91.198). 

Junior Courtney Karolinko (Boynton Beach, Fl/Park Vista) won “B” figures for Keuka besting 12 other swimmers, including nine Golden Griffin swimmers, with her score of 72.775.  Rookie Megan Morehouse (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) just barely won “C” figures as her score of 67.692 edged Canisius’ Oliva Hanson’s score of 67.656.  Junior Sarah Silverman (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) was the top performer in “D” figures with a score of 60.095.

Canisius took the top two spots in trio while Keuka’s Kristeena Griggs (Hamden, CT/Hamden), Karolinko, and Tracy Ringel (Columbia, MD/Atholton) placed third (80.000).  Cookerly teammed with fellow senior Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) to tie for second place in the duet with a score of 85.333.  Cookerly then took second in the solo routine behind Canisius’ Jessica Grogan (85.833 – 85.667). 

The Storm’s team routine placed second behind Canisius with scores of 88.417 and 84.750, respectively.  Keuka’s team routine consisted of Cookerly, Griggs, Kaminska, Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), Morehouse, Ringel, and Alicia Wimmer (Brackney, PA/Montrose Area).

Keuka will next host both the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University this Saturday, Feb. 28 beginning at 3 pm.
