Storm Outlast Cobleskill; End Regular Season on 12-Game Winning Streak
February 23, 2009

Sophomore Nadia Madmoune had a team-high 10 rebounds, five steals, three assists, and three blocks in the win.
The Keuka women’s basketball team faced a tough test to keep its winning streak alive in its final regular season game of the season. That test was the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill, the only North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) team to defeat the Storm this year.
Give the Storm an A+ as they passed the test with a 48-41 win on Saturday. The win gives the Storm a 12-game winning streak to use as momentum heading into the NEAC Tournament this coming weekend. Keuka now sits at 14-7 overall while Cobleskill falls to 17-6 on the year.
Both teams held at least a 5-point advantage at some point in the opening half with Cobleskill holding on for a 22-21 lead at the break. Keuka regained the lead (37-35) at 4:55 left in the second half and never looked back as they outscored Cobleskill 11-6 over the final five minutes of the game. The Storm, who never shot over 30% in either half and finished at just 28% (14-for-50) for the game, used a strong performance from the free throw line to help in pulling off the victory. Keuka went 18-for-25 from the charity stripe (72%) while Cobleskill went just 3-for-10 (30%). Both teams struggled from behind the arc with Keuka going 2-for-17 and Cobleskill shooting 0-for-9.
Senior Angela Viggiani (Kent, N.Y./Albion) posted the game’s lone double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Nadia Madmoune (Rome, n.Y./Rome Free Academy) also grabbed 10 rebounds while chipping in with six points, three assists, three blocks, and a game-high five steals.
Sophomore Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) was the only other Storm player to reach double figures with her 11 points. Junior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) added eight points and six rebounds while sophomore Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) scored eight points off the bench for Keuka.
Cobleskill didn’t have a single player reach double digits in points with Chelcy Moore leading the way with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Keuka will now wait for its seeding for the upcoming NEAC Tournament. The Tournament will be on Feb. 27 and 28 with the championship being played on March 1.
