2009 Season Preview

Senior defender Isaac Zehr will help stop opponents from scoring this season.
The men’s lacrosse team enters 2009 for the first time as a NEAC-affiliated member. The Storm immediately become the favorite to win the league title as they went 3-0 against the other new members last season while outscoring them 53-12. The Storm will also look to improve on its 8-5 overall record.
Head coach Jason Paige will have to make-up for the loss of three of his best players in defender Derek Christensen, midfielder Justin Pecori, and goalie Chad Green. The Storm do return a plethora of young talent that played major roles in the Storm’s eight wins.
At the attack position will be seniors Drew Kunda (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and Adam Farrell (Frontier, N.Y./Hamburg). Kunda netted 14 goals with four assists for 18 points while Farrell added 13 goals and two assists for 15 points. Sophomores Stephen Ferguson (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) – 3-0-3, Stephen Major (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge)- 1-1-2, and Cody Clement (Palmyra, N.Y./Plamyra-Macedon) – 1-0-1, also return to help out on attack.
The midfield position will be led by senior face-off specialist Chris Sullivan (East Northport, N.Y./Northport). Sullivan was fourth on the team in scoring with 15 goals, seven assists, and 22 points while winning 90 face-offs at a .584 win percentage (29th nationally). Senior TJ Radka (Waterloo, N.Y./Cayuga CC) will also be back after posting five goals and four assists for nine points. Sophomores Jamie Conway (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) - 3-3-6, and David Miller (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) – 2-3-5, should both see increased playing time this year. Also back at midfield are senior Joe Hallowell (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Odyssey) – 1-2-3, and sophomore Peter Hart (Webster, N.Y./Thomas).
Returning to the starting line-up on a defense that was ranked 42nd nationally in scoring defense (8.23) will be seniors Isaac Zehr (Lowville, N.Y./Cayuga CC) and Greg Marsh (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo). Zehr was second on the Storm with 44 ground balls while Marsh scored six goals withseven assists for 13

points while also picking up 40 ground balls. Also back in the starting line-up is sophomore James Simmons (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) - 1-1-2, 27 GBs. Senior Ryan Notarpole (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) - 28 GBs, and Cody List (Greece, N.Y./Greece Odyssey) - 12 GBs, will provide leadership on the defensive side of the field, while junior Ryan Stack (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and sophomore Michael Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) also return.
Replacing Green in goal will be sophomores Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and Jon Curry (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier). Leonard finished with 12 saves in 103-plus minutes while Curry stopped five shots in 41-plus minutes.
New to the squad this year will be midfielders Parker Gazda (Syracuse, N.Y./ESM), Max Ercole (St. Johnsbury, VT/St. Johnsbury Acad.), Connor Brown (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), Dave D’Ambosia (Penfield, N.Y./Schroeder), Ben Ternosky (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette), and Anthony Stirpe (Webster, N.Y./Schroeder). New attackers are Dave Colicchia (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence), Gino Marcello (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili), Matt Kise (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), and Tim Mandell (Corning, N.Y./Corning East).
New defensively will be Mason Brown (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) and goalies Brian Enck (Webster, N.Y./Schroeder) and DJ Hasesley (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport).
The Storm will begin its season at Vassar College on March 7 at 1 pm. Keuka will kick-off its home schedule with a contest against SUNY Brockport on April 1at 4 pm.
