The Keuka College synchronized swimming team was barely defeated by the No. 2 nationally ranked Buckeyes of Ohio State University at the Ayers Pool on Saturday.  Ohio State won the Keuka tri-meet with a final score of 98 while the No. 7 Storm posted a score of 90.  The Nittany Lions of Penn State University placed third with its 70.5.

The Buckeyes won all four routines and “A” and “B” figures while Keuka took the top spot in “C” figures and the Nittany Lions won “D” figures.

Ohio State’s team routine posted a score of 91.167 while Keuka’s team of Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg), Kristeena Griggs (Hamden, CT/Hamden), Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Courtney Karolinko (Boynton Beach, FL/Park Vista), Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), Megan Morehouse (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan), Tracy Ringel (Columbia, MD/Atholton), and Alicia Wimmer (Montrose Area, PA/Brackney) posted a score of 84.667.

Cookerly took second in the solo routine with a score of 84.833, finishing barely behind the Buckeye’s Katherine Green (86.667).  Cookerly and Kaminksa then placed second in the duet (85.000) while Griggs and Lojo placed third in the duet (80.833).  The Storm’s trio of Griggs, Karolinko, and Ringel finished just three points behind the Buckeyes (83.333 – 80.833).

Junior Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban Girls College), back after suffering an injury earlier in the year, placed second in “A” figures out of 14 swimmers with a score of 81.031.  Ringel was the Storm’s top “B” swimmer (72.924) with Keuka taking four of the top five spots.  Morehouse won “C” figures (66.025) besting four other swimmers.  Junior Sarah Silverman (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) was Keuka’s top “D” figure performer (56.915) as she took third out of 16 swimmers. 

Keuka will next compete in the East Regionals that the Storm will host this Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8.
