Storm Win Again; To Play for NEAC Title
March 1, 2009

Sophomore Brittany Schrock scored a game-high 20 points in the Storm's win.
The Keuka College women’s basketball team just simply cant lose. Or at least that’s what one would think by looking at its schedule results for the past month and a half.
The No. 2 seeded Storm got past the No. 3 seeded Spartans of D’Youville College in its semifinal match up of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament by a score of 58-49 on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.
The win is the Storm’s 14th straight dating back to its final game in the JPMorgan Chase Basketball Tournament back on Jan. 17. The Storm have defeated the Spartans, who won the NEAC Tournament last season, all three times they have played this season. Keuka stands at 16-7 overall now while D’Youville ends its season at 15-13.
Keuka will now play for the NEAC Tournament title and the chance to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. The NEAC championship game will be played on Sunday, March 1 at SUNY Cobleskill. The Storm’s opponent is the No. 5 seeded Nittany Lions of Penn State-Berks. Berks upset the top-seeded Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill, 62-57, in its semifinal game.
Against D’Youville, Keuka got off to a slow start, trailing 10-2 after the first three minutes. Keuka quickly tied the game at 14 points a piece, and then went on a 15-6 run to end the first half. The Storm led 29-20. Neither team shot particularly well with Keuka shooting 27% and the Spartans just 22%.
Keuka built its lead to as many as 12 points in the second half and never let D’Youville get closer then six points behind them. The Spartans got to within six points back (53-47) with just 1:33 remaining but sophomore Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) quickly answered with a 3-pointer to put the game back out of reach. For the game, both teams shot 30% but the Storm attempted 27 more shots (73-46) and made eight more (22-14). Keuka’s defense was on top of its game as they caused 30 Spartan turnovers leading to 19 Keuka steals. D’Youville collected just four steals.
Schrock led the way for Keuka with a game-high 20 points while hitting four of the team’s eight 3-pointers. Schrock went 8-for-18 from the floor and added five rebounds. Classmate Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added 16 points on 6-of-18 shooting. Lincoln also collected four boards, four assists, and a pair of steals.
Sophomore Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Acad.) pulled down 12 rebounds while senior Angela Viggiani (Kent, N.Y./Albion) hauled in eight. Sophomore Nicki Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) tallied seven points and four steals.
D’Youville got 11 points from Melissa Kanalley and a double-double from Christine Halter (10-points and 10-rebounds). Holly Beats pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
