Women’s Hoop Stars Share Athlete of the Week Honors
March 3, 2009
The Keuka College women’s basketball team enjoyed a huge week with winning the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament and earning a birth into the NCAA Tournament. A big reason for the teams success was the play of two of its sophomore guards in Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison).
The duo were both named Keuka College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 1.
Lincoln, a 5-4 point guard, was named the NEAC Tournament MVP after turning in 35 points and 17 assists in the three games. Lincoln went off for nine points and four assists in Keuka’s quarterfinal win over the University of Dallas. She then had 16 points and four assists in the semifinal win over D’Youville College. In the championship game win over Penn State-Berks, Lincoln had 10 points and nine assists. She also had six steals, eight rebounds, and hit three 3-pointers in the tourney. For the season, Lincoln leads the team in scoring with 229 points (10) and assists with 125 (5.4).
Schrock , a 5-7 shooting guard, dialed it up from long range, hitting 10 3-pointers and leading the Storm with 46 points. In the semifinal game, Schrock netted a team-high 20 points on four 3-pointers. She followed that up with six long balls and a team-high 22 points in the championship game. Schrock added eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals. For the season, she finished second on the team in scoring (9.8) and tied for first on the team in made 3-pointers (44).
