Lincoln Named NEAC MVP; Sweet Coach of the Year

Sophomore Courtney Lincoln was named the NEAC MVP.
The 2008-09 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women’s basketball awards were announced late last week and Keuka brought home the top two pieces of hardware. Sophomore point guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) was selected by the NEAC coaches as the conference MVP while her coach, David Sweet, was selected as NEAC Coach of the Year.
The nine NEAC coaches selected 15 players to make up the three All-Conference teams. Joining Lincoln on the first team were Sharee Daniels of SUNY Cobleskill, Courtney Bailey of Penn State-Berks, Melissa Kanalley of D’Youville College, and Colleen Clarke of Cazenovia College.
Lincoln, already named the NEAC Tournament MVP last week, orchastrated the teams offense all season long while leading the team in passing with 127 assists (5.3). She finished second on the team in scoring with 231 points (9.6) and field goals (74) and third on the team in steals (41) and made 3-pointers (22). In the NEAC Tournament, she led the Storm to three straight wins while scoring 35 points and passing off 17 assists.
Coach Sweet led the Storm to a 17-8 overall record that included a 15-game winning streak and the programs’ second NCAA Tournament appearance in the last three years.
Named to the All-NEAC third team were sophomores Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Acad.) and Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison). Madmoune, a talented rebounding forward, finished the year second on the team in rebounds with 176 (7.7). She scored 144 points (6.3) and finished second on the team with 44 steals while leading the team with 18 blocks. Schrock, a 3-point specialist, led the team in scoring at 9.8 points a game (234). She also netted 45 3-pointers while shooting 75% from the free throw line (41-for-55). Schrock added 26 steals, 18 assists, and 61 rebounds.
