Women’s Lax Falls in Season Opener
March 15, 2009

Senior Brenna Leach scored two of the Storm's six goals.
The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team was defeated by the Bears of SUNY Potsdam by a score of 16-6 in its season opener on Saturday. The game was played at Hobart and William Smith College’s McCooey Field on Saturday.
Despite scoring the game’s first goal, the Storm couldn’t stop the Bears from improving to 2-1 overall on the year. Keuka starts its 2009 campaign 0-1.
Keuka began the game in good shape, as sophomore Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) netted the first goal at the 21:35 mark. Potsdam would go on to score 10 of the final 13 first half goals to hold a 10-4 lead at the break. The two teams defenses clamped down in the second half as Potsdam scored just six goals and Keuka managed only two.
The Bears led in shots but not by as many as the final score would make you think. Keuka finished just eight shots behind Potsdam (24-16), but the Bears were much more effective with its shots. Potsdam scored on all but eight of its shot attempts in the game. The Storm held a slight advantage in ground balls (21-16).
Senior Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored two of the Storm’s six goals as did junior Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC). Bush finished with a goal and a team-high four assists.
Sophomore Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) tallied her first-ever Keuka goal while classmate Courtney Potochniak (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) dished off her first collegiate assist.
Potsdam was led by Allie Nettles’ six goals as well as Molly Lehman-Lewis’ three goals and four assists. Ashley Bordington chipped in with two goals and three assists.
In goal, Keuka senior Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) finished with three saves while playing all 60 minutes. Potsdam used two goalies who each picked up a pair of saves.
Keuka will next travel to Alfred University this Wednesday, March 18 for a 5:30 pm game.
