Storm Fall Late to Saxons

Sophomore Brandy Shafer led the Storm offense with five goals and an assist.
The Keuka women’s lacrosse team let a late lead slip away as they fell on the road to the Saxons of Alfred University by a score of 15-13 on Wednesday.
With the loss, the Storm fall to 0-2 on the year while Alfred wins its season-opener.
The Storm jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and eventually went up three (4-1) before settling on a one-point (8-7) halftime lead. For the second period in a row, Keuka netted the first two goals to stretch its lead to three (10-7). The Saxons answered with four straight goals to take an 11-10 lead with 15 minutes remaining. A free position goal by senior Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and an unassisted goal by junior Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC) put the Storm back in front by one (12-11). Alfred again rattled off four straight goals to secure the win.
Alfred held an advantage in shot attempts (34-23) and ground balls (32-28) while the Storm led in draw controls (16-14).
Sophomore Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge), who missed the Storm’s first game with an ankle injury, netted five goals while adding an assist. Leach scored three goals giving her five in two games.
Sophomore Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) chipped in with two goals while classmate Courtney Potochniak (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) scored a goal and dished off an assist. Senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) scored her first goal of the season while York led the team with five ground balls and three draw controls to go with her one goal.
Senior goalie Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) stopped five shots in each half to end with 10. Alfred’s Kate Baughman collected six saves while picking up the win.
Alfred received eight goals from Michelle Adams and two goals and four assists from Emily Tobin.
The Storm will next play its first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 2 pm.
