The Keuka men’s lacrosse team ran into a very tough Potsdam State team on Saturday as they were defeated 14-5.  Potsdam outscored Keuka in all four periods, including a huge 5-1 advantage in the third period.

Keuka now sits at 1-4 overall while the Bears improve to 3-2.

Keuka was out-shot 48-17 in the game while Potsdam also picked up 18 more ground balls (40-22).  The Bears biggest advantage over the Storm came in face-offs with Potsdam winning 18 of the 22 face-offs.  Potsdam went 49-for-50 in clears while Keuka cleared the ball 29-of-32 times.

In the first, Potsdam quickly went up 2-0, before goals by seniors TJ Radka (Waterloo, N.Y./Cayuga CC) and Drew Kunda (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) tied the game with 5:44 remaining in the first.  Potsdam answered with two more goals before the start of the second to hold a 4-2 advantage.  The Bears opened up the second with three straight goals before Keuka could answer with a score.  Potsdam led 7-3 at the break. 

Potsdam put the game out of reach with five goals in the third to Keuka’s one before outscoring the Storm 2-1 in the fourth.

Senior Adam Farrell (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and rookies Tim Mandell (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) and Parker Gazda (Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) each tallied a goal to go with Radka’s and Kunda’s scores.  Senior Greg Marsh (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and sophomore David Miller (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) each dished off an assist.

Potsdam had six players score two goals and four player’s record two assists.

Sophomore goalie Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) stopped 16 shots in goal while allowing 14 goals.  Classmate Jon Curry (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) recorded four saves and allowed zero goals in a little over seven minutes of action.

Keuka will next play host to Brockport State this Wednesday, April 1 at 4 pm.
