Synchro Finishes Tenth at Nationals

The Keuka College synchronized swimming team finished its 2008-09 season with a 10th place finish at the U.S. Collegiate Nationals held in San Antonio, Texas.  The four day event concluded this Saturday, March 28.

Keuka finished with a final score of 31.5 while the Ohio State University Buckeyes eased to the title with a score of 98.  Stanford University took second with a score of 80, just ahead of the only other New York school, Canisius College (76.5).  The University of Incarnate Word (66.5), the University of Alabama-Birmingham (56), Lindenwood University (44.5), the University of Florida (42), the University of Arizona (40.5), and Wheaton College (33.5) rounded out the top ten.

Keuka’s team routine of Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg), Kristeena Griggs (Hamden, CT/Hamden), Courtney Karolinko (Boynton Beach, Fl/Park Vista), Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), Megan Morehouse (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan), Tracy Ringel (Columbia, MD/Atholton),Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), and Alicia Wimmer (Brackney, PA/Montrose Area) placed 11th overall out of 12 team routines with a score of 85.000.  Ohio State took first with a score of 97.333.

The Storm’s trio of Cookerly, Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban Girls College), and Kaminska also placed 11th out of 12 with a score of 83.167.  The Buckeyes took the top two spots.  The Storm did not have a duet compete while in the solo, Cookerly placed eighth (83.500) and Crowder took tenth (83.167).

In the figures portion of the competition, it was Griggs who stole the show as she finished sixth in “C” figures out of 57 swimmers with a score of 63.135.  Crowder was the Storm’s top “A” figures performer with her 23rd place finish (78.674) out of 45 swimmers.  Ringel was Keuka’s top “B” swimmer with a 23rd place finish (66.326) out of 53 swimmers.  Freshman Charlie Clark (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Buffalo Seminary)took 15th overall out of 42 swimmers in “D” figures with a score of 55.054.
