The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2009 season in a big way with a 16-2 thrashing of the Phoenix of Wilson College on Saturday.
Not only was the win Keuka’s first of the season but the game was also the program’s first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game. Keuka now sits at 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEAC while Wilson falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Storm got off to a great start by scoring the game’s first nine goals before Wilson could tally its first. That score (9-1) would be the halftime score. Keuka again would score the first seven goals of the second half before Wilson closed out the scoring with its second goal. For the game Keuka dominated the stats categories with a 35-11 advantage in shots and 9-20 in turnovers.
Despite Keuka scoring 16 goals, no one on the Storm scored more then twice as eight different players tallied two scores a piece. Leading the way were sophomores Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) who each added two assists. Senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) and sophomore Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) each added an assist to go with there two goals.
Also scoring two goals were senior Katy Priestley (Lyons, N.Y./Lyons), sophomore Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), junior Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC), and rookie Kayla McLachlan (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland). York led the Storm with four draw controls.
