Men’s Tennis Blanks BBC in Season Opener

Senior James Fitch won his singles match 6-3, 6-0.
The Keuka College men’s tennis team got off to a great start to its 2009 campaign with a 9-0 thumping of the Defenders of Baptist Bible College on Wednesday. The match was played at the Birchwood Tennis Club in Clarks Summit, PA.
The Storm won all six of its singles matches as well as all three doubles matches. Leading the way for Keuka was sophomore Patrick Barker (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) who won his flight No. 1 singles match by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Juniors Will Fisher (Watkinsville, GA/Oconee) and Mike Fischer (Kattskill Bay, N.Y./Lake George) won there No. 2 (6-4, 3-6, 10-1) and No. 3 (6-3, 6-1) singles matches, respectively.
Senior Justin Roe (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron) won 8-3 in flight No. 4 singles while sophomore Blaine Phair (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke) picked up his first-ever Keuka win in flight No. 5 (6-2, 6-4). Senior James Fitch (Perry, N.Y./Perry) concluded the shutout with an easy 6-3, 6-0 win in the sixth flight.
In doubles, the tandem of Fisher and Fischer defeated its competitors 8-3 in the first flight. Barker and Roe then won the second flight by a score of 8-5. Phair and junior Casey Dahlstrom (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) easily won the third flight of doubles by a score of 8-1.
Keuka will next play at Elmira College this Friday, April 3 beginning at 4 pm.
