Softball Takes Two from Spartans

Sophomore Kate Kraus picked up both wins on the hill.
Keuka remained perfect through seven games as they defeated the Spartans of D’Youville College by scores of 7-5 and 9-1 in its first road games of the season on Monday, April 13.
With the pair of wins Keuka improves to 7-0 overall and 7-0 in the NEAC while the Spartans slip to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
In the first game, Keuka fell behind 2-0 before quickly answering with five runs. D’Youville would add a few more runs but Keuka tacked on a couple of runs in the seventh to secure the win. Sophomore Kate Kraus (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) picked up the win while coming in relief and throwing the final four innings. Fellow sophomore Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) belted two home runs while batting 2-for-3. Sophomores Denise Bilbow (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) each belted out two hits.
In the nightcap, Keuka eased to a 9-1 win despite being out-hit 10-9 by the Spartans. Kraus pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned. Bilbow led the sticks going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs scored. Sophomore Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) added a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and an RBI while rookie Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) batted 2-for-4. Fredricks was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and three walks.
Keuka will next face-off against St. John Fisher College at home this Wednesday, April 15 with first pitch set for 3 pm.
