The Keuka College baseball team got within two outs from knocking off the visiting Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester on Wednesday but couldn’t close it out as they fell 6-5 in the first game.  Rochester shutout Keuka 7-0 in the nightcap.

Keuka falls to 3-16 overall while Rochester, who was nationally ranked the week prior, improves to 22-8 on the year.

Leading 3-2 entering the seventh inning, Keuka recorded the first out before Rochester strung some hits together and scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.  The Storm fought back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning but couldn’t plate anymore as they fell 6-5.  Sophomore Mike Marsh (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) pitched six and a third strong innings, allowing only three earned.  Senior Alex Paquette (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) batted 2-for-2 with a double a two runs scored while sophomore David Janiszeski (CLarence, N.Y./Clarence) also collected two hits.

In game two, Keuka managed just three hits while limiting Rochester to only seven.  Unfortunately, the Storm’s defense had an off game as they committed six errors that allowed all seven runs to score unearned.  Senior Josiah DelGrosso (Montour Falls, N.Y./Corning Christian) was the tough luck loser on the hill pitching six solid innings.  Paquette and rookies Mike Hutchings (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Nick Ventura (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) had the Storm’s three hits.

Keuka will next square off against SUNYIT this Saturday, April 18 beginning at 1 pm.
