The Keuka women’s lacrosse team jumped out to a nice 5-2 halftime lead but were outscored 9-4 in the second half as they fell 11-9 on the road to Marywood University on Thursday, April 17.

The loss evens Keuka’s record out at 3-3 while Marywood improves to 6-7 overall.

After Marywood grabbed an early 1-0 lead, Keuka’s Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC) tied the game up three minutes later.  Marywood would answer with its second goal before the Storm scored four straight goals, two by senior Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy), to finish up the first half with a 5-2 lead.

The two teams both scored in the first five minutes of the second half to give Keuka a 6-3 lead.  Marywood would score four of the game’s next five goals to even the score at seven-to-seven with just over 15 minutes remaining.  Keuka would reclaim the lead with two straight goals in just over a minute of action.  Unfortunately for the Storm that would by the end of its scoring as Marywood finished off the game scoring the final four goals to grab a two-goal win.

For the game, Keuka was out-shot 33-22 while Marywood also gobbled up eight more ground balls (28-20).  The two teams tied with 11 draw controls a piece while both going 1-for-6 in free position shot attempts.

Senior Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) had a huge game for the Storm with 15 saves including nine in the first half.  Marywood’s Katie Sullivan finished with 10 saves while picking up the decision.

Leach led the scoring for Keuka with three goals while sophomores Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) and Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) each had two goals and an assist.  York and sophomore Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) scored Keuka’s other two goals.  Dougherty and classmate Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) each passed off an assist.

Keuka will next play an important conference game at Cazenovia College this Saturday, April 18 beginning at noon.
