Mills Tosses Gem in Game One Win; Baseball Splits
April 24, 2009

Junior Simon Mills pitched a complete game gem for the Storm.
The Keuka baseball team split a conference double header with the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill on the road Sunday. The Storm won the first game 3-2 in extra innings before falling 16-1 in the second game. Keuka now stands at 5-18 overall and 5-6 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
Game one belonged to junior pitcher Simon Mills (Boonville, N.Y./Adirondack) who was dominant for all eight innings. Mills allowed just three hits and two earned runs. Keuka had raced out to 2-0 lead before a two-run homer tied it and sent the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, senior Alex Paquette (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) singled and then stole second. Classmate Ed Schoeneck (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) then doubled to right center, driving in Paquette with the winning run.
Paquette batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Schoeneck, junior Ted Black (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis), and sophomore David Janiszeski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) all had two hits.
In game two, the Fighting Tigers out-hit Keuka 15-7 while the Storm also committed seven errors as Cobleskill rolled to an easy win. Black drove in Paquette with a hit for Keuka’s lone run. Sophomore Matt Dunn (Walden, N.Y./Chapel Field) batted 2-for-2.
The Storm will next take on Brockport State this Tuesday, April 21 beginning at 4 pm.
