Women’s Tennis Blanks Wilson in Regular Season Finale

Senior Katie Bremer helped Keuka shutout Wilson while winning both of her matches.
The Keuka College women’s tennis team finished the 2008-09 regular season in style with a 9-0 win over Wilson College on the road on Sunday, April 19. The Storm finish with a 5-4 overall mark and stand at 4-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). Wilson slips to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
In doubles, the Storm’s top flight of Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) and Alison Liberty (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) defeated its opponents easily (8-1) while freshmen Nicole Becker (Hornell, N.Y./Avoca) and Helen Helmer (Whitesboro, N.Y./Notre Dame) won by the same score in the second flight. Senior Katie Bremer (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and junior Jennifer Heinrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) won the final flight by a score of 8-3.
In singles, McGowan disposed of her opponent (6-2, 7-5) in the top flight while Liberty won (6-1, 6-1) in the second flight. Heinrich won (6-1, 6-4) in the third flight as Becker won (6-1, 6-1) in the fourth flight. Bremer shutout her fifth flight opponent (6-0, 6-0) as did junior Anna Peluso (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) in the sixth flight.
Keuka will next play in the NEAC Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26 at the Birchwood Tennis Club in Clarks Summit, PA.
