Softball Swept by U. of R

The Keuka softball team lost its first doubleheader of the 2009 season as they were swept by the visiting Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester on Thursday, April 23. Rochester won game one 10-3 and took the second game 15-8.
Keuka still sports an impressive 15-4 overall record while Rochester improves to 27-10 overall.
Game one started off as a pitcher’s duel until Rochester broke it open with a run in the third and then proceeded to score runs in the next four innings. Keuka scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rochester out-hit Keuka 10-7 while the Storm committed four errors. Senior Kasie Davis (Johnsburg, N.Y./Johnsburg) suffered her first loss of the season and now stands at 8-1. Fellow senior Stacy Schreiner (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron) batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and a double while sophomore Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) belted a home run.
In game two, the Storm were let down by its defense as they committed six errors. Keuka belted 12 hits and scored eight runs while Rochester knocked 17 hits and scored 15 times. Sophomore Kate Kraus (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) struck out six while allowing only five earned of the 15. Fredricks batted 3-for-4 with three RBI’s, two runs scored, and another long ball. Rookie Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) also batted 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two doubles while classmate Melissa Deyo (Auburn, N.Y./Port Byron) drove in a pair of runs.
Keuka will next play at Wells College this Saturday, April 25 at 1 pm.
