Big Third Quarter Seals Win for Men’s Lax

The Keuka men’s lacrosse team used a six-goal third quarter en route to knocking off the visiting Soaring Eagles of Elmira College 12-8 on Saturday, April 25.  The Storm jump above .500 at 7-6 while Elmira falls to 1-12 on the year.

Tied 4-4 at the half, Keuka outscored Elmira 6-1 in a pivotal third quarter.  Elmira netted three goals to the Storm’s two in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done as Keuka escaped with the four-goal win. 

For the game, Keuka out-shot Elmira 45-27 while also picking up two more ground balls (20-18).  The game featured a plethora of penalties as the two teams combined for 24, totaling 19 and a half minutes.  The teams were unable to capitalize on all of the man-up situations as Keuka went 2-for-16 and Elmira went 2-for-8.

Keuka received goals from seven different players led by three from senior Drew Kunda (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) who also added an assist.  Rookie Parker Gazda (Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) also had a huge game with two goals and a game-high three assists.  Fellow freshman Tim Mandell (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) added two goals and an assist.

Senior Greg Marsh (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) scored two goals, both coming in the game-changing third quarter as fellow senior TJ Radka (Waterloo, N.Y./Cayuga CC) chipped in with a goal and two assists.  Radka now has 20 assists on the year.  Also scoring goals were senior Joe Hallowell (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Odyssey) and freshman Connor Brown (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden).  Senior Adam Farrell (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) passed off one assist.

Goalie Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) continued his stellar sophomore campaign with 10 more saves while Elmira’s Geoffrey Lane stopped 13 shots.

Keuka will next play at Nazareth College in its final regular season game this Tuesday, April 28 beginning at 4 pm.
