Baseball Drops Pair to Pitt-Bradford

Senior Alex Paquette batted 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles.
The Keuka baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Pitt-Bradford on the road Saturday. The Storm fell in game one 8-3 and lost the night cap 8-1. Pitt-Bradford improves to 13-14 overall while the Storm slip to 5-21 overall.
Game one saw the two teams bring a 3-3 tie into the bottom of the sixth inning, where Pitt-Bradford broke it open with five runs. The Panthers had two more hits (12-10) in the game. Sophomore Bobby Potter (Montour Falls, N.Y./Odessa-Montour) suffered the loss despite allowing just seven hits in five innings of work while striking out three. Freshman Nick Ventura (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), senior Alex Paquette (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton), and junior Ted Black (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) all had two hits a piece. Read more
Big Third Quarter Seals Win for Men’s Lax

Senior Greg Marsh netted two big goals in the third quarter to help Keuka run away with the game.
The Keuka men’s lacrosse team used a six-goal third quarter en route to knocking off the visiting Soaring Eagles of Elmira College 12-8 on Saturday, April 25. The Storm jump above .500 at 7-6 while Elmira falls to 1-12 on the year.
Tied 4-4 at the half, Keuka outscored Elmira 6-1 in a pivotal third quarter. Elmira netted three goals to the Storm’s two in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done as Keuka escaped with the four-goal win.
For the game, Keuka out-shot Elmira 45-27 while also picking up two more ground balls (20-18). The game featured a plethora of penalties as the two teams combined for 24, totaling 19 and a half minutes. The teams were unable to capitalize on all of the man-up situations as Keuka went 2-for-16 and Elmira went 2-for-8. Read more
Robinson Repeats as NEAC Golfer of the Year

Senior Josh Robinson was named the NEAC Golfer of the Year for a second straight year.
Senior Josh Robinson (Barton, N.Y./Tioga) tried his best to lead the Storm to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship as he was the medalist out of 53 golfers en route to being named the NEAC Golfer of the Year for a second consecutive season. The championship was held at the Cazenovia Country Club in Cazenovia, NY on April 23-24.
Keuka finished fourth overall out of 10 teams with a final score of 665. The Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden took first with a score of 598. Behind Rutgers-Camden was Penn State-Harrisburg (650), the University of Dallas (653), Keuka, and SUNYIT (687) in fifth place. The bottom five were SUNY Cobleskill (693), Penn State-Berks (696), D’Youville College (729), Cazenovia College (788), and Wells College (984). Read more
Men’s Tennis Takes 4th at NEAC’s; Barker Named to 3rd Team

Sophomore Patrick Barker earned a spot on the All-NEAC third team.
The Keuka College men’s tennis team placed fourth at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships that took place at the Birchwood Tennis Center in Clarks Summit, PA on April 23-24. SUNY Oneonta placed first and was followed by Penn State-Berks (second place) and Penn State-Harrisburg (third place).
In the team portion of the championships, Keuka was awarded the #4 seed and had to square off against top-seeded Oneonta in its first match. Keuka fell 6-0, dropping all three doubles matches by scores of (8-1, 8-3, and 8-0). The Storm lost the first three singles matches while the last three were not finished. Read more

NEAC Players of the Year Named Keuka Athletes of the Week

Sophomore women’s tennis star Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) and senior golf sensation Josh Robinson (Barton, N.Y./Tioga) were both named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Players of the Year during the week of April 25. Earning them Keuka College Athlete of the Week honors.
McGowan, the Storm’s No. 1 singles and doubles player, won both of her singles matches and doubles matches during the individual portion of the NEAC Tournament en route to being named the conference Player of the Year. McGowan also won all four of her matches during the team portion of the NEAC Tournament, helping Keuka to a second place finish. In the championship match of singles, McGowan won easily (6-4, 6-0). She was named to the NEAC first team in both singles and doubles. Her efforts also helped Keuka to its first-ever NCAA Tournament birth as Penn State-Harrisburg, the NEAC champions, can’t accept the conference AQ due to its provisional status.
Robinson, the NEAC Player of the Year last season as well, finished with a two-day total of 145 to finish two strokes ahead of the second place finisher. Robinson shot a 76 on the first day of the NEAC Championships held at Cazenovia Country Club and followed it up with a two under par 69 on the second day. He finished plus three for the tournament while being named the NEAC Player of the Year for a second consecutive year.
York’s Three Goals Not Enough as Storm Fall to Oswego

The Keuka women’s lacrosse team ran into a tough Oswego State team and suffered a 22-5 loss on the road on Friday, April 24. Keuka now stands at 3-6 overall while Oswego jumps up to 9-6 with the win.
Keuka was outscored 10-2 in the opening half and then 12-3 in the second half. Keuka did manage 21 shots while allowing 39. Oswego gobbled up 27 ground balls to the Storm’s 19 while Oswego also won more draw controls (16-12).
Junior Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC) scored three of Keuka’s five goals while also winning a team-high five draw controls. Sophomore Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) added a goal and an assist while senior Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tallied the Storm’s other goal. Softball Swept by U. of R

Senior Stacy Schreiner batted 4-for-5.
The Keuka softball team lost its first doubleheader of the 2009 season as they were swept by the visiting Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester on Thursday, April 23. Rochester won game one 10-3 and took the second game 15-8.
Keuka still sports an impressive 15-4 overall record while Rochester improves to 27-10 overall.
Game one started off as a pitcher’s duel until Rochester broke it open with a run in the third and then proceeded to score runs in the next four innings. Keuka scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rochester out-hit Keuka 10-7 while the Storm committed four errors. Senior Kasie Davis (Johnsburg, N.Y./Johnsburg) suffered her first loss of the season and now stands at 8-1. Fellow senior Stacy Schreiner (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron) batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and a double while sophomore Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) belted a home run.
