Schreiner Named ECAC First Team All-Star

Senior Stacy Schreiner was named to the All-ECAC First Team.
Keuka softball player Stacy Schreiner (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron) was selected to the 2009 Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate first team following her brilliant senior season.
Schreiner, also picked to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) first team, batted .345 this season while driving in 17 runs. She also caught a staff that posted a 24-8 overall record, a 2.65 team ERA, and 155 total strikeouts.
The backstop committed only one error all year to finish with .990 fielding percentage while allowing only 11 stolen bases all year.
Schreiner finishes her career sixth all-time at Keuka in hits (79), third in doubles (16), fourth in RBIs (55), first in putouts (538), first in total chances (606), and second in fielding percentage (.982).

Fredricks Named to NFCA All-Region Second Team

Sophomore Sarah Fredricks was named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team.
Sophomore slugging first basemen Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) received one more accolade to her already impressive tally from the 2009 season. Fredricks was chosen to the second team of the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Team.
Fredricks, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year for the second year in a row, had a monstrous sophomore campaign. She set numerous school single season records including home runs (11), RBIs (45), total bases (91), slugging percentage (.910), and on-base percentage (.509).
Fredricks batted .450 on the year, giving her a career .428 batting average which places her first in Keuka’s annals. More important then her individual stats were that she helped lead Keuka to its third straight NEAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Storm Claim Second Straight NEAC President’s Cup

The Keuka College athletics program reigned supreme yet again over its fellow North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe’s as the Storm claimed its second straight conference president’s cup.
Keuka finished with an overall percentage of 0.7778 while earning 84 points out of a possible 108. Following Keuka was SUNYIT (0.6839), SUNY Cobleskill (0.6117), D’Youville (0.5402), Penn State-Berks (0.5255), Penn State-Harrisburg (0.5204), Cazenovia (0.4124), Wells (0.3438), and Wilson (0.2500). Softball Falls to U. of R and Fisher in NCAA’s

Freshman Sara James batted 5-for-6 in Keuka's two games today.
The Keuka College softball team saw its magical 2009 season come to a close on the second day of the NCAA Tournament regional at Ithaca College. The No. 6 Storm were defeated 10-2 by the No. 2 Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester in a game beginning at noon. Keuka was then eliminated by the No. 3 Cardinals of St. John Fisher College by a score of 7-6 in a game at 4 pm.
Keuka finishes the season with an overall record of 24-8 while making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Read more

Softball Mercy Rules Fisher in 10-2 Rout in NCAA Game

Sophomore Sarah Fredricks batted 2-for-3 while clubbing her 11th home run.
The Keuka softball team kicked off its 2009 NCAA Tournament exactly how it wanted to with a 10-2 thumping of St. John Fisher College. The regional is being played at Ithaca College on its Kostrinsky Field.
The No. 6 Storm (24-6) out-hit the No. 3 Fisher 12-4 while mercy ruling the Cardinals (30-11) after five innings of play.
Keuka got things started in the top of the second inning as sophomore Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) singled up the middle to lead off. Sophomore Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) was then hit by a pitch and was followed by a sac bunt by senior Stacy Schreiner (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron). Junior Jessica VanScoter (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) then grounded back to the pitcher who threw wildly to home, allowing both Fredricks and Engelbert to score. Senior Lindsay Humbertsone (Perry, N.Y./Perry) then drove a base hit back up the middle to score VanScoter and make it a 3-0 game. Read more
Women’s Tennis NCAA Tourney Run Halted by Hope in 6-0 Loss

Junior Alison Liberty (left) and sophomore Megan McGowan and the rest of the Storm fell 6-0 to Hope College.
The Keuka College women’s tennis teams sensational 2009 season came to a close with a 6-0 loss to Hope College in its first-ever NCAA Tournament match. The match was played at Denison University in Ohio. The Storm end the season with a 6-6 overall record.
After losing its three doubles matches, Hope was able to seal the win with victories in the first, third, and fourth flights of singles. The other three flights were not finished. Read more
