Women’s Lax Wins NEAC Championship 14-13 Over Caz

Sophomore Brandy Shafer's five goals earned her the NEAC Tournament MVP.
The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team defeated the No. 1 seeded Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a score of 14-13 in the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship on Saturday, May 2 at Cazenovia.
Trailing 13-12 with just over two minutes remaining, Keuka’s Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) netted the game-tying goal off a pass from sophomore Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell). Then with only 46 seconds remaining, senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) scored the game-winning goal.
Keuka held a one-goal advantage (5-4) after the first half while out-shooting Caz 15-12 in the half. Keuka again out-shot the Wildcats in the second half (19-14) while the two teams each scored nine times. Cazenovia ended with one more ground ball (19-18) while Keuka won 17 draw controls to Cazenovia’s 12.
Shafer finished with five goals, including four in the second half, while being named the NEAC Tournament MVP. Sophomore Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added two goals and three assists while Bush had a goal and two assists.
Partridge finished with two goals, none more important then her last one. Sophomore Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) added two scores while seniors Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Katy Priestley (Lyons, N.Y./Lyons) each scored once. Murray led the Storm with five draw controls and five ground balls.
Senior goalie Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) finished with nine saves in goal while picking up the biggest decision of her career. Cazenovia’s Cari Dwinal ended with 10 saves while suffering the loss.
