Fredricks Repeats as NEAC Player of the Year; Kraus Tabbed as Pitcher of the Year

The softball team dominated the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) all season to a tune of a 15-1 record, as well as regular season and tournament championship

The Storm players were rewarded for its success by the conference as seven players in all were named to the All-Conference teams.  Keuka also took home the top two honors in Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

Sophomore first basemen Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) took home the NEAC Player of the Year honors for a second consecutive year.  Fredricks batted a team-high .456 with 41 hits in 90 at bats.  The slugging sophomore also led Keuka with 10 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a .933 slugging percentage while finishing second on the team with seven doubles and a .515 on-base percentage.  Fredricks also scored 31 runs on the year while being selected to the first team.

Fellow sophomore Kate Kraus (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was voted as the NEAC Pitcher of the Year after posting an 11-4 overall record with a slim 2.05 ERA.  Kraus led Keuka with 20 appearances while tossing 12 complete games with three shutouts.  She also saved four games for the Storm while striking out a team-high 84 batters in 95.2 innings of work.  Kraus was also selected to the All-NEAC second team.

Joining Fredricks on the first team were senior pitcher Kasie Davis (Johnsburg, N.Y./Johnsburg), senior catcher Stacy Schreiner (Port Byron, N.Y./Port Byron), and sophomore outfielders Denise Bilbow (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison).

Davis sported a record of 12-2 on the year while winning two of Keuka’s three games in the NEAC Tournament.  Davis started 16 games while tossing nine complete games and a team-high five shutouts.  In 87.1 innings, Davis struck out 64 batters with a 2.81 ERA.  Schreiner batted a solid .388 while catching a staff with a team ERA of 2.40.  The senior backstop clubbed 19 hits, including four doubles while driving in 16 runs and scoring eight.  Schreiner also threw out three runners in 11 steal attempts.

Bilbow, this seasons NEAC Tournament MVP, batted .409 (36-for-88) while scoring 35 runs and driving in 10.  Bilbow also clubbed a home run, three triples, and two doubles.  Bilbow’s biggest asset is her speed that she used to go 33-for-34 in stolen base attempts on the year including a perfect four-for-four in the Tournament.  Engelbert batted .341 (29-for-85) while playing a very solid center field with 45 putouts and two assists.  The three sport athlete, scored 23 runs while also driving in 23 to go with her four doubles, three triples, and two long balls.  Engelbert also led the Storm with 15 base on balls.

Joining Kraus on the second team was rookie utility player Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton).  James led Keuka with 43 hits while rocking a .446 batting average, while also leading Keuka with 38 runs scored.  She finished second on the team in RBIs with 31 while leading Keuka in doubles (8) and triples (5).  James went a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases with a .622 slugging percentage.
