Six W. Lax Players Honored by NEAC; Randall Tabbed as Goalie of the Year

Fresh off of winning its first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament championship, the women’s lacrosse team received some more accolades for its successful 2009 season.

The Storm placed four players on the All-Conference’s first team and two more on the second team.  Keuka also sported the top goalie in the league as senior Audrey Randall (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey)was named the NEAC Goalie of the Year.  Randall finished the year with 94 saves while sporting a .441 save percentage.  She finished the year with a 4-7 overall record while going 3-1 in conference play.  Randall played 633:42 minutes with a goal against average of 11.27.  Randall also received a spot on the conference’s first team.

Joining Randall on the first team were sophomore attacker Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva), senior midfielder Brenna Leach (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy), and sophomore midfielder Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge).

Dougherty finished second on the team in scoring with 24 points in 10 games.  She scored 11 goals while passing off a team-high 13 assists, including three in the NEAC Championship game.  Dougherty also picked up 11 ground balls and four draw controls.

Leach, also an All-Conference performer in soccer this season, was fourth on the team in scoring with 20 points.  Her 19 goals were second on the team while she led Keuka with 36 ground balls and finished second with 24 draw controls.

Shafer, this season’s NEAC Tournament MVP, led Keuka in scoring for a second straight season with 32 points.  Shafer had a team-high 26 goals including five in the championship game while also passing out six assists.  Had a team-high two game-winning goals while also picking up 10 ground balls and 14 draw controls.

Named to the second team was sophomore attacker Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) and junior midfielder Jenn York (Rochester, N.Y./MCC).  Murray was third on the team in scoring with 22 points.  She netted 14 goals and passed out eight assists.  Murray picked up 22 draw controls while also corraling 27 ground balls.  York scored 10 goals while splitting her time between defense and the midfield.  York led Keuka with 28 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers and added 31 ground balls (second on the team).
