Women’s Tennis NCAA Tourney Run Halted by Hope in 6-0 Loss

The Keuka College women’s tennis teams sensational 2009 season came to a close with a 6-0 loss to Hope College in its first-ever NCAA Tournament match.  The match was played at Denison University in Ohio.  The Storm end the season with a 6-6 overall record.

After losing its three doubles matches, Hope was able to seal the win with victories in the first, third, and fourth flights of singles.  The other three flights were not finished.

In doubles, sophomore Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) and junior Alison Liberty (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) fell in the top flight by a score of 8-2.  Rookies Kelsey Tamblin (Batavia, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and Nicole Becker (Hornell, N.Y./Avoca) lost 8-1 in the second flight while senior Katie Bremer (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and junior Jennifer Heinrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) lost an 8-2 decision in the third flight.

McGowan fell 6-1, 6-0 in her top flight singles match.  Tamblin was blanked 6-0, 6-0 in the third flight while Heinrich fell 6-0, 6-1 in the fourth flight.
