Solid Four Returnees to Pace Harriers in ‘09
September 4, 2009

Sophomore Scott Matheis will pace the Storm again in '09.
The Keuka College men’s cross country team returns four of its top five runners from a 2008 squad that finished fifth at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships.
New Head Coach Katie Marcella hopes that their experience from last season will help the team improve on its conference finish.
“This team’s strength will be the motivation that the runners have, wanting to get out there and make themselves better and to push one another to be better.” stated Marcella.
The squad will be led by sophomore Scott Matheis (Barker, N.Y./Barker), who had a stellar rookie campaign. Matheis finished first for the Storm in all but one race and won the Keuka Invitational with an 8K time of 29:31. He finished 31st at the NEAC Championships.
Junior Kraig Connor (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia), who had three top 5 Keuka finishes last season while missing a few races with injury, is poised for a big junior year.
Fellow juniors Chris Mazella (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and Josh Uline (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) each had four, top 5 Keuka finishes last season and will give the Storm a very solid top 4.
New to the team will be Justin Hess (Clyde, N.Y./Clyde Savannah) and David Parker (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM). Both will be counted on to round out Keuka’s top 5.
Keuka will start its season at SUNYIT Saturday, Sept. 5. The Storm will then compete in invitationals at SUNY Oswego, Hobart, SUNY Geneseo, Nazareth, and the University of Rochester. Keuka’s lone home race will be Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. at Keuka Lake State Park. The NEAC Championships will be held at SUNYIT Saturday, Sept. 31.
